Apple Talks iOS 5 At iPhone Event - Announces October 12 Launch Date

Apple has just announced the release date of iOS 5 at its iPhone event in Cupertino, CA. Importantly, Apple noted that iOS 5 will launch on October 12.
The fifth major version of Apple's mobile operating system adds over 200 new features, including Notification Center, iMessage and Newsstand (which we have a heap of information on). Furthermore, the software update adds support for Apple's iCloud service, which was also announced today.

Apple's upcoming iOS 5 software update will be compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, the third and fourth generation iPod touch, and the original iPad and the iPad 2.
