Codify For iPad: A Beautiful Touch-Based Code Editor

October 27, 2011
A new app called "Codify" allows users to create, edit and run code on an iPad. The application is currently available to download for $7.99. Once downloaded, users can create graphics, images, games and simulations on an iPad, and make use of the tablet's multi-touch display and accelerometer when coding. As outlined in the app's release notes, features of Codify include:
  • A full featured vector graphics and image renderer lets you prototype what you can imagine
  • Lots of fantastic example projects to learn from, including games and simulations
  • Generate random retro-game sound effects to use in your creations
  • Touch your code: tap numbers, colors and images to adjust them
  • Complete in-line reference documentation accessible from the keyboard
  • Intelligent auto-completion suggests keywords and functions
  • Add parameters to your simulation or game interface so you can tweak variables at runtime
  • Interact with the accelerometer and multi touch on your device
  • Codify renders your code with beautiful syntax highlighting
Because of Apple's iOS app rules, you can't import or export projects. However, the application's developer has noted that an update adding sharing capabilities has been submitted to the App Store, though that this may be rejected by the approval team. As mentioned, Codify is currently available to download in the App Store for $7.99. It's compatible with the iPad only. Take a look at the application, and be sure to post your thoughts in the comments. [via MacRumors]
