Foursquare Updated - Improves Radar, Fixes Bugs

October 27, 2011
The foursquare iPhone app received a minor update recently, which fixes a variety of bugs, improves the app's stability and calms its Radar feature right down. The feature was added in the previous version of foursquare, and is available for iOS 5 users only. Once enabled, the application alerts users when they're near places of interest. On paper this sounds great, but users of the app quickly realized that when in urban areas, foursquare Radar went crazy. Push notification alerts would be sent every few minutes, promoting many to switch Radar off as quickly as they'd enabled it. However, foursquare appears to have fixed this issue in the latest version (4.0.2) of the application. The specific fix isn't cited in the app's release notes, but was instead spotted by Gizmodo. According to the website:
Now, Radar won't shout at you like some coffee shop-recommending homeless man. It's much, much less sensitive, tossing you a notification when you're near a spot on a list you follow or a place you've noted down for later. It'll also simply suggest things with reduced frequency, so you can actually read one tip before another lands on you. The social minefield's still out there (why not make that a separate option in Radar?), but it's nice to see Foursquare fix this so quickly.
If you use the foursquare app and like the sound of its Radar feature, download the update and take it for a spin. The foursquare iPhone app is currently available in the App Store for free.
