Put Aside Your Manners To Wreak Havoc Above And Below With Charles C. Gull
Charles C. Gull (Free) by Caleb Hystad is a great arcade game where you fly around with Charles, a jerk of a gull, who likes to go around causing a bit of mayhem in the skies and on the ground.
By tapping the screen, you’ll make Charles flap his wings and fly upwards. If you press on the screen, he’ll glide and when you let go he’ll shoot upward with a quick boost in speed.
The aim is to knock other, smaller, birds out of the sky and to knock over trash cans on the ground. The birds gain you one point and the trash cans two. Every 10 points, Charles will fly a little faster. You’ll have to be careful though, as pursuing each has its own dangers.
There are ravens flying around as well -- if you touch them you’ll lose a feather (basically you’ll lose a life). As for the ground, you’ll have to beware of the bears, as they too will cause you to lose feathers. Fortunately, you can build your feathers back up by flying into other gulls.
There are just a couple of things I don’t like about this game. First, the graphics are way too low in resolution. It can’t possibly have been necessary or desirable to make the game look so overly pixelated. And second, every time you start playing, a short tutorial is kind of forced on you. You can get into the action almost right away, but it does get a bit annoying.
Overall, Charles C. Gull is extremely fun and I’m very surprised it’s free. The controls are smooth and add a touch of unpredictability. Gameplay is action-packed, fast-paced and very replayable.
