ThinkGeek's Iris 9000 Siri Remote For iPhone 4S Scheduled For Spring 2012

October 26, 2011
Apple's new virtual personal assistant, Siri, is able to answer most questions and perform many tasks with a quick, simple, and naturally spoken question or command. Unless you always wear a BT headset, you'll need to carry your iPhone around to ask Siri for help. But what if you could tell Siri to start a timer, have Siri read back any new notifications, initiate a phone call, and so on without needing to have your iPhone 4S right next to you? Arriving in the year 2012, ThinkGeek's Iris 9000 will allow you to interact with Siri from across the room, all while making sure your iPhone is charged whenever you need to head out. Not only has ThinkGeek worked to quickly announce a Siri-compatible accessory, but the company felt it would be appropriate to mimic their companion to Apple's virtual personal assistant in the looks of a historic interactive artificial intelligence, HAL 9000. The Iris 9000 features the same rectangular computer server form factor, the glowing red eye, and similarly styled name tag as the famous 2001: A Space Odyssey entity. For some additional aesthetic appeal, the eye flickers as Siri speaks. Iris doesn't just look pretty, she is also pretty handy. Press the button on the Iris 9000 mini remote, wait for the two chimes, then speak. Iris' built-in microphone can pick up your voice even when you're numerous feet away, and then the question or command is relayed to Siri. When Siri responds, the audio is broadcasted through Iris' amplified speaker, making it easy to hear from a distance. The Iris 9000 is compatible with iPhone 4S, and is scheduled to be available sometime in the spring of 2012 for $59.99 plus any applicable taxes and fees.
