Backspace To The Age Of The Typewriter With The Amazing Type-Writer
The Amazing Type-Writer ($1.99) by Doormouse Mfg. is an app that simulates a typewriter and you can keep it right in your pocket. Some of you have probably never even touched, or seen, a real typewriter. It's the nostalgia of it; there's just something comforting about the sounds and the way it looks.
Create cards by typing on the typewriter, complete with real typewriter noises. The ability to freely move the carriage return anywhere on the card, to type anywhere you want, makes this app a joy to use.
Post your creations to the typewritten gallery — access it by tapping the squares on the carriage return — and view what others have made. You can even type on other's cards.
The best part about this app is viewing, and creating, pictures with text. Some of the works of art that people have made with this app are incredible; I really enjoyed viewing the gallery and gawking at these pieces.
You can also send the cards to Twitter right from within the app itself (given you have iOS 5 installed).
It would be nice to see an iPad version of this and also the integration of unicode, and other languages other than English. For those who like landscape mode, that isn't a choice here. Personally, I never type in landscape mode, but some may want this option available to them. Other than that, this app is fun and creative, and it does what it says.
The Amazing Type-Writer is available for the iPhone in the App Store for $1.99. If you like the idea of making typewritten cards, it's worth the small price.
