Roll And Jump Quickly To Escape The Black Cloud Of Doom In Downbound
Downbound ($1.99) by Mental Moustache Ltd. is an arcade game where you have a small ball with eyes that needs to fall as far as possible as quickly as possible.
Your ball needs to escape the huge, descending black cloud that is threatening to envelope and consume him. Along the way you'll need to collect stars to both increase your score and give you in-game currency.
You have to tilt your iDevice to move the ball from side to side. You can jump by tapping the screen. You can jump even higher by tapping the screen as you bounce.
It seems impossible to get all the stars, but do try to get as many as you can. And definitely look out for the large stars; they are 10 times more valuable.
The star points can be used to purchase 10 extra balls to play with. There's no difference in gameplay between the balls, they just let you choose a different look.
There are 16 levels to play on across four different environments. Completing each level will unlock the next one.
As you progress, you'll start coming across different features that add to your playing experience. There will be spring loaded pads to shoot you higher, sections of the floor that can fall apart, and you will occasionally become very large.
When you are large, you'll go crashing through floors and move down very quickly. It will be a lot easier to collect stars and escape the black cloud.
Downbound is one of those "pick up and play apps" that are easy to learn and fun to play. There's a lot of action on offer here and more is in development. If you're looking for a great way to kill some time, this would be a good way to go.
Beware, however, Downbound does not work on the iPhone 3GS.
