Instagram And Memory Equals Instamory
Instamory ($0.99) by Ivica Aracic combines Instagram with the classic game of Memory.
Your choice of photo options to pull from include: popular, featured (#chickchickboom), your Instagram collection, or searching by tags. The game has easy, medium, and hard playing modes, with each mode featuring a different amount of cards.
If you’re so inclined, you can play with up to four players. The tokens for each player are different colored cameras, positioned around each side of the board. Each player takes a turn, though he or she gets an extra turn for making a match.
The cards will also orient to the player’s position. Once the game is done, the winning token does a cute little jig, which is a prize for all of the players.
What I really like about this game is that it’s self-paced. You’re not trying to beat a clock and you don’t have a limited amount of turns (though you can always try beating your best score). The game won’t go away if you leave the app, so you can always come back to it.
The game parallels Instagram’s aesthetics, with vintage-looking cards and a faded wooden background. A jaunty little ditty plays for the music. You can turn it off, if you’d like, but why would you want to?
Other apps, like Idea Mix, have made use of Instagram, though this is by far the most clever use of it. Not only is the game fun for casual play, but it also showcases some of the quirky pictures to be culled from Instagram.
