Quirky App Of The Day: Diary Of A Cat

November 26, 2011
Diary Of A Cat is hilarious if you're into point of view humor. If you're going to sit there the whole time thinking, "Cats don't write. This is just impractical," then don't bother trying it out. While most people I know would get a kick out of it, there are those who just don't let that sort of humor fly with them. I, however, am a simple person with a simple sense of humor. Therefore, I laughed heartily and read some passages aloud.

The entire app is a diary of a cat named Mittens. However, Mittens is pretty sure that his name isn't Mittens and that the humans he lives with aren't his biological family. He feels the compulsion to write his memoirs in order to give some fulfillment to his life and hold off the impending madness of being a house pet. Now, I know that I'm notorious for making up my own backstory when I find it lacking. However, this app is nothing but backstory. So, I didn't make this up on my own. I give full credit to the author. I was entertained and intrigued by the various things that would impress or bore a cat. I haven't pondered what the world looks like to a cat. I was also thoroughly impressed with the clean grammar. Sure, there might have been a typo here or there. If there were, they were far enough apart that they didn't really detract from the reading experience. Maybe I'm just jaded from seeing far too many app developers who think of commas as "sentence sprinkles" and periods as a monthly ordeal. They tend to just scrap the whole sentence structure idea and toss appropriate word choice to the wind. Not this app. This app passes my test of being readable. Considering the other apps I review, this is, indeed, an accomplishment. Diary Of A Cat is funny, witty, and well-written. I think it's creative and a good read when you're bored and need something light to entertain you. It's not like a regular book. If you want a regular book, download the Kindle app and get a few classics for free. Those will take you a few days. This is meant to be read while you're in the doctor's office or stuck in traffic. Not that I'm proposing that you read an app while driving. Reading is reserved for passengers only. Diary Of A Cat is a universal app available in the App Store for the awesome price of FREE!
