Apple has recently approved a Bluetooth 4.0 heart rate monitor application called CardioMapper. The app, which is available to download for $1.99, provides "full real time and post exercise analysis," allowing users to track their burned calories using the iPhone's GPS.
However, the best feature CardioMapper offers is the ability to connect to Bluetooth 4.0 SmartHRM and Bluetooth Smart accessories, which will allow users to track their own heart beat while exercising.
As outlined in the app's release notes:
Contrary to popular belief you burn more calories running than walking an equal distance. Now you can use the iPhone GPS to easily determine intensity based calories burned doing distance exercises like biking, running, ice skating, inline skating, walking and cross country skiing. To help you time High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), CardioMapper also includes an interval coach that can tell you when to increase or decrease your intensity. Time based custom messages allow you to enjoy your favorite iPod music playlists while the interval coach tells you messages at preset times. Perfect for BFL, HIIT and other common intensity based training, it comes with a dozen virtual coach routines but additional routines can be easily added. The accessories will be premiered at CES next year. In the meantime, you can take a look at CardioMapper in the App Store (where it's available for $1.99), and we'll keep you posted on the accessories' release. [via 9to5Mac]
