Flight Control And Flight Control HD Are Updated With New Maps, An Undo Feature, And More

December 2, 2011
Plenty of developers are firing off holiday updates left and right lately, however, Firemint isn't throwing snow on the Flight Control runways to freshen things up. Instead, Flight Control HD for iPad expands into outer space and Flight Control for iPhone and iPod touch gets hit with the non-frigid precipitation. In addition, both iDevice versions bring on a new feature to help with those "D'oh!" moments. Arriving in Flight Control v1.9.3, Storm Airfield can be strikingly tough. Having a more neon ground appearance than other airports, this new airfield is in the midst of experiencing a thunderstorm. Heavy rain isn't a problem but those lightning bolts can cause you some stress. During the few seconds following an aircraft being struck by a bolt of lightning, its controls will be disabled and, therefore, you will not be able to alter the craft's current path. Also included in this update is a new achievement, Thunderstruck, awarded when a single aircraft is struck by lightning three or more times. Flight Control HD v1.07 trades aircraft for spacecraft when taking on the responsibility of the new Moon Base. Rather than directing jets, planes, and helicopters, this new landing zone is meant for satellites, rockets, and so on. Landing spacecraft in Flight Control HD isn't any different than aircraft. However, there are challenging obstacles to avoid: asteroids. Thankfully, the small floating rocks will primarily just knock your crafts off course, although, do not collide with any of the large asteroids. The new achievement this time is Bumper, awarded when your crafts hit 15 small asteroids. Along with the new map, Flight Control HD v1.07 adds voice chat to the online multiplayer feature. This new ability can be disabled or enabled in the Options pane. As a reminder, the online multiplayer feature allows players to invite a friend or be auto-matched through Game Center to compete on one of the five classic maps. No matter which iDevice version you own, you'll have a similar chance to remove your last mistake with the new "rewind" feature. Reversing the last few seconds of gameplay, this new feature can give new possibilities to a run that's looking to be your highest scoring yet. Of course, it comes with a catch; doesn't it always? Each rewind will cost you, however, it seems that you get a preview of the results before being prompted to make your in-app purchase. Flight Control is designed for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.0 or later, and available in the App Store for $0.99. Flight Control HD is compatible with iPad running iOS 3.2 or later, and available in the App Store for $4.99.
