Jailbreak Only: iPhone 3GS, Original iPad, iPod Touch (4G) All Untethered Under iOS 5.0.1

December 14, 2011
The famous iOS hacker @pod2g has recently updated his blog a number of times, noting that he has managed to apply an untethered jailbreak solution to his iPhone 3GS, original iPad and iPod touch (fourth generation), all of which are running iOS 5.0.1. The news comes following a previous update, in which @pod2g announced that he had been able to untether the iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1, also. Though no news regarding a potential release date has yet been posted to the Web, it would appear that @pod2g is close to developing a jailbreak solution that Apple A4 iOS device owners will be able to take advantage of. Unfortunately, the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S (which house a dual-core Apple A5 processor) do not appear to be compatible with this solution. In addition to the above announcements, @pod2g also noted that he has been able to untether the Apple TV (second generation) under 4.4.3. However, this solution has not yet been tested (FireCore, he notes, are shipping him an Apple TV for testing). The announcements mean that Apple fans who own an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, original iPad, iPod touch (fourth generation) and an iPod touch (third generation) can safely update to iOS 5.0.1, because as @pod2g notes, they are jailbreak-able. However, if you do decide to do this, save your SHSH files and AP ticket via iFaith first. For more information, be sure to visit @pod2g's iOS blog or follow the iOS hacker on Twitter. We'll let you know if there are any more developments. [via iJailbreak]
