A Chance To Win A Snow School (Universal) Promo Code With A Retweet Or Comment

February 2, 2012
AppAdvice has teamed up with VB53 Ventures, in association with Super Boise Studios, in order to offer you a chance to win one of four promo codes for sNOw School ($0.99) for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Most of us can recall those mornings, or evenings, when we'd do just about anything to get out of going to school. Most commonly, we'd act ill or pray for bad weather, the latter being the best because your parents couldn't debate the legitimacy. Therefore, one of the biggest events for a kid was listening to the weather news and hoping for three words, "winter storm warning." It's in that dream an app was created to predict snow days.
“I remember the suspense and excitement I felt as a kid when I watched a snow storm begin and wondered if my school would have a snow day,” said VB53 Ventures Founding Partner Mike McCormick. “That memory was the inspiration for building sNOw School, which we hope will be a fun and useful app for students, parents and teachers.”
When looking at sNOw School, you may think of it as strictly an entertainment app but it's much more. Even though the interface is colorful and simplistic, there is a lot going on in the background to provide the result. VB53 Ventures uses historical data specific to each school, current weather forecasts for the area, and information on how prepared the region is to deal with particular weather conditions. As of now, sNOw School covers 10,000 public and private colleges, universities, elementary schools, and high schools in five metropolitan areas: NYC area (incl. North Jersey) Philadelphia Boston Washington, DC Baltimore If you're bummed out about not seeing your region, make a request to add your school. Anyway, we'll continue on for those readers who are in the aforementioned ENE cities. As I said before, sNOw School's interface is simple enough for everyone to use. The three basic steps include selecting your region, choosing your school, and then tapping the large "Calculate" button at the bottom of the main screen. In a matter of seconds, the likelihood of your school being closed due to wintry conditions will be displayed along with a short, fun comment, e.g., "you just may find yourself in an epic snowball fight." Because snow doesn't arrive everyday, the team at VB53 Ventures includes one more feature to turn that frown upside down. After being provided the actual snow day prediction result, you can tap on "Change Forecast" to input a hypothetical winter storm or increase the potency of the currently predicted one. The modified result will not only offer you some comfort but give an idea of how many more inches you'll be hoping for to make that snowflake-filled dream come true.
