Angry Birds Wing Their Way Onto Facebook

Angry Birds Wing Their Way Onto Facebook

February 13, 2012
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few years you will be familiar with the phenomenon that is Angry Birds. Rovio's hit iOS game has spawned two spin-off titles, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio, along with a whole multitude of various peripherals and merchandise from iPhone cases to radios. It's hard to live your life in 2012 without being confronted by these crazed canaries. This task has now been made all but impossible by the introduction of Angry Birds onto Facebook.

The game was originally announced to be releasing worldwide on Valentine's Day, but it appears the birds are out of the cage a little earlier. The game is Flash based (boo) and features a unique system of power-ups available only in this Facebook incarnation of the game. These power-ups effectively allow players to cheat and skip certain troublesome levels. Rovio explains the power-ups as:
... unique to Angry Birds on Facebook. There are 4 different types of power-ups and they can be accessed via the lightning bolt button at the top of the screen. You can use two power-ups per level. The four power ups are: Super Seeds, King Sling, Sling Scope and Birdquake. All power-ups have a different effect but ultimately make you more competitive against your friends by making your birds stronger or more accurate or even by shaking the earth itself!
The Super Seeds increase the size of the bird currently in your slingshot. While this may sound, on first impression, a bit pointless, it effectively allows your bird to do more damage. The King Sling increases the initial launch speed, the Sling Scope allows you an advanced look at your bird's trajectory, and finally the Birdquake shakes the ground giving you that little extra helping hand to nudge those troublesome pigs off ledges and the like. This being Facebook the game wouldn't be complete without the option to annoy entertain your friends by inviting them to beat your high-score or even giving them a gift of various Angry Bird power-ups. Is Angry Birds Facebook one bird too many or are you flapping mad for more? I for one would be happy if I never had to see a bird again, angry or not ... Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
