Just In Time For The Oscars, Umami Updates Their iPad App With Two New Social Features
February 25, 2012
Umami, the app that brings you an enhanced and interactive TV watching experience, has been updated with two great new features just in time for the 84th Annual Academy Awards. FreezeFrame and Dishboard will allow you to easily keep up and get your own commentary out there quickly.
Dishboard is the revamped social section of the app. Now a dashboard containing multiple items, fans can see how many people are discussing the current episode, what they're saying, and what the most popular opinions are. Of course, you can chime in with your own tweet(s) and join in on the conversations.
When you make a comment, most of the time it relates to a particular scene, right? Thanks to FreezeFrame, getting your point across just got easier. Utilizing Umami's synchronizing ability and live streaming capture, FreezeFrame offers up the last handful of moments of the current TV program. All you need to do is tap on the FreezeFrame button at the top of the screen immediately following the moment you want to capture, select an image, add your message, and post. Voila!
Both of these features are well worth getting that update applied, if you haven't already. I feel FreezeFrame is definitely a game changer for TV companion apps. Despite all of the glorifying, I will admit that neither feature is absolutely perfect. The full Dishboard only seemed to appear when I was watching very popular shows and FreezeFrame would typically have at least one image of the moment I wanted to express but it doesn't display every frame. Nevertheless, these are handy features and at the unbeatable price of free.
Umami is compatible with iPad running iOS 3.2 or later, and available in the App Store as a free download.
