New Apple TV Expected To Hit Streets Next Month

February 28, 2012
Along with an iPad 3, Apple is expected to launch a new Apple TV next month, according to news first reported by 9 To 5 Mac. This would be the first Apple TV refresh since September 2010. Recent Apple coding suggests that a product, code-named J33, is, in fact, a third-generation Apple TV. Goodies on the new device could include a faster processor and a dual-core A5 chip, which would include an improved graphics engine. In addition:
Other possibilities from the rumor-mill include a redesigned Bluetooth 4.0 remote control, and Siri support, but those are not rumors that we can independently confirm (yet). This new Apple TV would seemingly launch with a new 1080P movie service from Apple’s iTunes Store.
Unfortunately, the report says nothing about the long-rumored entry of an actual Apple TV, which AppAdvice is calling the iTV. Earlier this month our own A.T. Faust III suggested the iTV would arrive soon, based on recent comments by Apple CEO Tim Cook. Alas, it doesn't look like that will be happening, at least for the time being. The iPad 3 (and Apple TV?) event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 7.
