What's In A Name? Secure Gmail Is All About Gmail Security
March 1, 2012
Gmail has its official iOS app, but we all know how bad that is. When it was first announced, most of us were no doubt expecting to use a native Gmail app on our iPhone or iPad that behaves, well, natively, but the actual app behaves more like a glorified mobile Web version of the Gmail website. And so we went back to using the stock Mail app in no time, which works seamlessly even if it still lacks a few key features. One of these features is the all-important security. Fortunately, very recently a new app was released to tackle this particular issue.
Secure Gmail offers exactly what its name says. If mail security on your iPhone concerns you, this app is tailor-made for you. It has passcode or dot lock protection, so you don't have to worry about anyone meddling with your precious e-mails every time you leave it behind or lend it to someone. It also has an option for restricting access to downloaded mail attachments.
Aside from security, Secure Gmail offers multiple account management. Whether you have only a single Gmail account or ten, including accounts running on Google Apps, the app lets you add them and switch easily between them. You don't have to enter your username and password combination when viewing a different account.
Note, however, that the appearance of Secure Gmail is no different from the mobile version of Gmail. Secure Gmail is all about security, and it seems to actively deliver on that promise. Secure Gmail for iPhone is available in the App Store for $0.99.
