When setting up Stock Tracker, you can import your Google Finance portfolios, import portfolio data using a comma separated values file, or input everything manually. Once your data is entered, keeping track of all kinds of information is a breeze, and even all in a single screen when using the app on an iPad.
For each portfolio, you'll be shown your cash asset, total accumulated gain or loss with percentage, daily gain or loss with percentage, and current total value. Of course, within each portfolio, you'll be able to view stock details. In the default view, the list shows stocks listed from biggest gain to lowest, along with being color-coded in shades of green and red to indicate the amount of gain or loss. Stock Tracker also offers an overall gain view, which is for stocks you're actually investing in.
When it comes to updating quotes, the process can be done two ways. The first is manually reloading data whenever you want using the pull-to-refresh gesture: pull down on the list of stocks, briefly hold, then release. The second method is automatic updating. To set auto-refresh, tap on the Info button in the top-left of the main screen, activate the Disable Sleep Mode option, and then activate the Refresh Every 5 Minutes option.
With the operating overview out of the way, I'll spend a little time mentioning the deeper details available for each stock. Tapping on a stock in a portfolio table will open a sliding window on an iPad or bring up a new screen on an iPhone. Obviously, Stock Tracker lists opening and closing amounts, current price, day and year ranges, and price-to-earnings ratio. However, Stock Tracker also displays key statistics like earnings per share, PEG ratio, book value per share, plus earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
