Atari Expands The Amount Of Free Levels In Breakout: Boost By Threefold
March 3, 2012
Breakout: Boost, the upgraded iOS port of Atari's classic brick breaking game, has received updates to include more paid level packs but yesterday's release finally added more free levels to play.
Prior to Breakout: Boost v1.4, Atari provided five levels for fans to try the game before needing to fork over money to add any of the three Booster level packs or the recently added Valentine's Day levels.
The big change in this very latest update, "10 NEW LEVELS for FREE!" Who wouldn't see that and be happy? However, this tripling of levels comes at a price, just not currency. For five of those levels, you'll need to click on the "Like Us on Facebook" link. Easy enough and you don't even need to "like" the page, simply visit it. That's not too bad, although, there's more.
Crammed between each of the free levels is an ad. The advertisement's "Continue" button isn't active for five-seconds, plus the game doesn't automatically resume. So, maybe I'm going a bit overboard but this seems a little harsh. It isn't the worst compromise in the world, as Breakout: Boost is a free download. I guess, it's the tactic of promoting free levels and not being open about the negatives that come along with them bugging me the most.
Anyway, I'll leave it up to you to decide whether it's worthwhile or not to download v1.4 and experience these new levels featuring about a minute-and-a-half of total advertising time and a smidgen of "gotcha" as free gifts.
Breakout: Boost is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 4.1, and available in the App Store as a free download. Level expansion packs are available via in-app purchase for $0.99 each.
