CutYourSIM Reappears, Offering Factory iPhone Unlocks For Under $185

March 1, 2012
Last year, a service called CutYourSIM appeared, and promised to unlock users' iPhone handsets quickly and easily for a not-so-small price. As you might expect, Apple was quick to put an end to CutYourSIM's workings, and after a short while no more orders were taken via CutYourSIM's website. Now, the service is back - promising to provide a factory unlock for all AT&T-locked iPhone handsets (that includes the iPhone 4S). The service, which you can check out online at CutYourSIM's website, will set you back $184.99 and, as iDownloadBlog explains, most likely works by having an AT&T insider add users' IMEI numbers to the company's "whitelisted" database. CutYourSIM explains:
We are proud to offer a permanent unlock solution for your AT&T iPhone. Having your iPhone remotely unlocked will allow you to use your iPhone on any GSM carrier. All you need to do is choose the carrier your iPhone is LOCKED to, provide us with your IMEI number, and purchase this service. We will then permanently unlock your iPhone remotely (usually 5-20 business days. This service works for all AT&T iPhones, the 3G, 3GS, 4, and 4S
It would currently appear that a free unlock solution for the iPhone 4S - powered by an updated version of ultrasn0w, we would assume - is out of the question. Just jailbreaking Apple's fifth-generation iPhone was a tough enough task for the jailbreak dream team, and developing an unlock solution is something that hasn't been mentioned for a few months. However, there are alternatives - Gevey SIM preorders launched recently, with the latest iteration of the product offering support for the iPhone 4S. The hardware-based unlock retails for $55, and is therefore quite a bit cheaper than CutYourSIM's offerings. CutYourSIM has the advantage of being a quick, easy and permanent solution. Though if you want to take advantage of the service, you're going to have to get in there ASAP - if past history is anything to go by, Apple will already be on to CutYourSIM's case and could have the service taken down in the very near future. You can try your luck with CutYourSIM via the service's website for $184.99.
