DenVog Adds Tons Of New Features And Enhancements To Their Acclaimed Note-Taking App, Index Card

March 13, 2012
Available since August 2010, Index Card by DenVog is one of those more unique note-taking apps. Is it the only index card app for iOS? Absolutely not, but its design and feature list have grabbed lots of attention and positive feedback. Even so, Index Card v3.0 is now available and contains several feature additions, including a third viewing option. Previously, users could view their index cards in the cork board-style grid view, where stacks can be viewed by tapping on the title card, and a second option allowed viewing all of your notes in a simplistic text list. These do seem like two great offerings, but now there's one more. Using the cork board approach once again, column view separates stacks into columns of cards. With this third option every card is viewable, yet still organized, with simple one finger swipe panning. If you plan on sticking with the standard grid view, DenVog has a new feature that will provide a similar effect as column view, except, it keeps things in that tighter organization package. While you could title stacks before, now you will know how many cards are in each stack. Indicated by a red number below the title, this feature will assist in reminding you if a certain stack contains a lot or only a little data. As a final addition to help keep things within quick access, Index Card v3.0 now has card font sizes. Applicable to both cork board views, grid and column, the three different font sizes are easily adjusted within the settings panel. Speaking of the settings area, I'll take a moment to mention the new option of making the last selected card label the new default. All of those visual enhancements should end up being plenty helpful, though DenVog goes beyond simple in-app activities. Two new interactive abilities include exportation to another iOS app and text context recognition. To export your card data to another app, which ends up in a tidy list, tap on the Action menu button, then Preview, and use the Action menu within preview to "open in" another iOS app. Context recognition means selecting a URL will add the option to view the page in Safari or selecting an email address provides the option to create a new message in Mail. Along with the aforementioned new and improved features, Index Card v3.0 also contains the following additions and changes:
  • AirPrint support for printing your notes without the need to have a computer nearby
  • Forward Delete: Extended keyboard button enables delete to the right of the cursor
  • Stats: Displays Project count, Card count for entire app (accessed via Info button on menubar)
  • RTF export font now matches screen app display font
  • Navigate to previous card from a new card (when working on a new card, swipe left-to-right)
  • Editing screen background matches user setting

  • Onscreen keyboard will no longer partially cover the last line of text, when Long Text is set to OFF
  • Changes in progress will be saved if you leave the app while editing screen is still open (didn't tap Cancel or Done)
  • Adding a new card while viewing back of card notes, will flip you to the front of the new card, ready for typing in Title
  • Tapping the button for a popover that is already visible will dismiss it
  • Selected item count now displayed in title, instead of individual buttons
  • Select All / None toggle button for quicker selection of cards
Index Card is compatible with iPad running iOS 4.2 or later, and available in the App Store for $4.99. [gallery link="file"]
