Circadia: A Simple Yet Devilishly Tricky Puzzle Game That You Must Have

March 3, 2012

Circadia ($0.99) by Simple Machine, LLC is a simple game that is extremely difficult to master. If you’re a fan of puzzle games, then this one is right up your alley.

If you’re one that believes that a game should look fancy to be good, then you should stop reading now. The graphics in this game are very basic and nothing special, but that isn’t what counts here. And hey, having a simple-looking game is nothing bad, especially when it’s such a good one like Circadia.

The premise of the game is simple, as stated in the App Description: each level is a constellation of musically colored dots, and they must all converge on the white dot(s) at the same time. It is your job to figure out the rhythm and sequence.

The game features 100 levels in nine chapters. The first few levels will introduce the basics to you. Each new chapter will introduce a new game element, such as multiple colored dots or multiple white dots. Whatever the case, the difficulty ramp increases as you go.

The controls in the game are as easy as they come: just tap on the colored dots to release a “burst” – the burst much touch the white dot at the same exact time as other bursts. Darker tones will have slower bursts, while higher tones will have faster bursts. You will probably have to test out the burst speed a few times before you can complete a level; fortunately, there is no penalty for multiple taps. In fact, there are no points of any kind – it’s just a puzzle that you need to solve to move on to the next level.

Circadia also offers complete iCloud integration so that you can pick up where you left off across all of your devices (it is a universal app). There are 12 achievements to get in Game Center too, so it should keep you motivated to keep playing. New content is on the way as well, so keep an eye out for that.

I loved the game itself because of how deceptively simple it is, even though it’s one of the more challenging puzzle games I’ve picked up on my iPhone. It’s definitely a keeper, and I highly recommend that you give it a try yourselves – don’t be fooled by the undemanding graphics.
