Not Only Can You Get This App For A Song, You Can Also Play It With A Song

March 22, 2012
As the maker of such apps as I Am T-Pain, Magic Piano, Ocarina and Glee Karaoke, Smule is nothing if not a musically inclined developing studio. And with the recent launch of Beatstream, another music app, Smule is once again staking its claim as one of the most prolific developers of music apps in the App Store. Beatstream is an app that makes a fast-paced game out of the tracks from your Music library. It analyzes the beats of your songs and creates a special stream of barriers for you to smash through. In a somewhat similar vein to Tap Tap Revenge, Beatstream requires you to tap on your iPhone's screen as you pay attention to the rhythm of the game's personalized soundtrack. And as in that other music-based game, Beat Hazard Ultra, the intensity of a game of Beatstream is affected by the musical makeup of the song currently being played. Beatstream offers two playing modes, Normal and Warped. Normal may be exactly what you expect it to be (that is, normal), so let's zero in on the intriguingly named Warped mode instead. Warped mode adapts to your game performance and warps the speed of the song and the pace of the game. This means that the better you fare, the faster and more challenging it gets. Watch the video below for a preview of the game, featuring Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" in Normal mode and Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" in Warped mode.
