Sequel To Popular Platform And Puzzle Game Hatching Soon On iOS
March 13, 2012
Toki Tori started life way back in 2001 as a little game for one of the most popular gaming devices of the time, Game Boy Color. Fast forward to over a decade, it is now about to hatch a sequel after being ported in the intervening time to various gaming consoles and platforms, including PlayStation, Wii, PC, Android and, of course, iOS.
Toki Tori was the first ever game released by independent developing studio Two Tribes, so making a sequel to such a beloved title must have posed a lot of challenges for the folks behind Two Tribes. But having both learned from their past failures and achieved considerable success with the original Toki Tori and other games under their belt, such as Worms: Open Warfare 2 and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, they're poised to come up with a worthy follow-up to their debut title. Judging only by the teaser trailer below, I can say that Toki Tori 2 appears to be a significant improvement over the already excellent original.

Toki Tori 2 incorporates the same platformer slash puzzler mechanics of its predecessor, but it promises a more engaging gameplay. In particular, the creators of Toki Tori 2 are underscoring what they call "knowledge unlocks." Rather than simply unlocking passageways, unlocking bits of knowledge about the world inhabited by Toki Tori and company is the way to go. That said, it seems that in Toki Tori 2, curiosity, which begets nonlinearity, is the order of the day.
According to Two Tribes, Toki Tori 2 will be released later this year, with initial availability reserved only for Mac and PC via Steam. The iOS version will follow not long afterward. Are you looking forward to Toki Tori's next big platform and puzzle adventure?
