The 8mm Vintage Camera App Gets An Update And Is On Sale

March 1, 2012
It seems that the better the iPhone's camera gets, the more apps spring up to make any advancements redundant. The strange thing is, apps like these are hugely popular and I'm a big fan of them. Hipstamatic is the perfect example of a well crafted app that, while adding a retro look to your photos, still yields some stunning results. While there are an abundance of such apps for your photos, there are few gems available for your videos. My personal favorite, of this select few, is the 8mm Vintage Camera app ($0.99). We originally reviewed 8mm Vintage Camera in late December 2010, though the app has moved on a little since then. Today the app has received a nice update and is also on sale for 50 percent off. If you have been putting off buying 8mm Vintage Camera, today might be the day to give it a try. Version 1.5 brings with it:
  • New film: Pela
  • New lens: Classic
  • New setting: 4:3/16:9 aspect ratio
  • New setting: HD on/off (iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch 4 running iOS 5.0 or above)
The new "Pela" film can only be described as "very brown." I can't see anyone needing or wanting to use this particular film over any of those already available, but having another option is always welcome. The "Classic" lens just removes the edging around the video, though this kind of ruins the whole purpose of applying the filters. The addition of the HD toggle and varying aspect ratios adds a little more usefulness to 8mm Vintage Camera, though again this isn't a huge change. All in all this is a nice little, free, update to a great app and the 50 percent off sale to celebrate its release can't be sniffed at. Have any of you picked up 8mm Vintage Camera? I'd love to see some of your creations.
