The New 'iPad Mini' To Arrive This Year, According To Samsung

March 5, 2012
With Apple’s iPad 3 event just days away, attention now turns to what to expect from the tech giant later in 2012. While much of the focus going forward will almost certainly be on the next-generation iPhone and possible iTV, another new product may soon be available: A 7-inch “iPad mini.” According to a recently uncovered Samsung Securities document, the smaller iPad is inevitable and will arrive in the third quarter of 2012, according to OLED-Display.net. If correct, the “iPad mini” would compete against Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which launched with much fanfare last year. In addition, the Samsung document suggests Apple may switch from the IPS display the company currently uses to AMOLED for the iPad 4 (in 2013) and iPhone 5 (in 2012). This isn’t the first time rumors suggested Apple would move to AMOLED. In fact, last May it was reported that the first iPad using AMOLED would be available in 2013. Today’s report seems to confirm that earlier report. Assuming Apple does launch an “iPad mini,” expect it to arrive sometime in August or September, well ahead of the holiday shopping season. We’ll keep you updated.
