More News On iOS 5.1 Jailbreak Hits The Web And It's Not Great

April 25, 2012
For a while now, we've all been waiting for a jailbreak solution for iOS 5.1. Though it's been a while, the iOS "security researcher" @pod2g has been keeping us in the loop over the past few months, and now another update on the status of the iOS 5.1 jailbreak has hit the Web. But don't get too excited. In a number of updates posted to his Twitter account, @pod2g noted that while he and his jailbreak team have managed to bypass the ASLR (Address Space layout randomization), a jailbreak solution for iOS 5.1 could still be months away:
ETA for 5.1 JB : no clue! We’re going to set pieces of the puzzle together this week. We could have issues… Could be 1 month maybe 2… Maybe never… (!) I know 1 month seems long, but it’s short to work on a project like this when it’s a hobby and you’ve other things to do as well.
The jailbreak solutions we know and love are free, and because of that, most iOS hackers have day jobs and so work on developing such solutions in their spare time. It's not fair to complain, and here at AppAdvice, we're just glad folks like @pod2g spend so much time finding exploits for our iOS devices. Hopefully we'll have more positive for you soon regarding the iOS 5.1 jailbreak, so be sure to check back with us. [via iDownloadBlog]
