New Update Finally Puts The 'Craft' In Minecraft - Pocket Edition

April 24, 2012
Minecraft - Pocket Edition, the iOS port of the popular sandbox-building game Minecraft, has once again received a significant update. And for many players, this update is the one they've long been waiting for. At long last, Minecraft - Pocket Edition has fully earned the "craft" part in its name. That's because the latest update to the game has added the much-anticipated crafting technique. Now you can combine your raw materials in the game to create new, more useful materials. Above is a sample shot of the crafting screen, in which you can survey your resources and decide what materials to craft new stuff with. You can access the crafting screen in survival mode by tapping the "…" inventory box in the selection grid and then tapping the "Craft" button. In addition to the crafting feature, a few more gameplay enhancements are brought by the update. Cows and chickens have now joined the sheep and zombie mobs, which were introduced by the last update. So, don't be surprised if you begin to hear a lot of crowing and mooing while playing the game. Damageable items now also come into play, as does the condition that some resources can only be picked up using specific tools. Finally, dropping items from your selection slots can now be performed by a simple press-and-hold action. This update brings Minecraft - Pocket Edition to version 0.3.0, still on its alpha phase. More importantly, though, it also brings the game closer to the experience offered by the original, full computer edition of Minecraft. Now you can stop sitting on the fence and start crafting fences instead in the newly updated Minecraft - Pocket Edition, available in the App Store for $6.99.
