Now Optimized For The New iPad's Retina Display, Groove 2 Gets You Back Into The Groove

April 25, 2012
The consensus view regarding the native Music app for iOS is that it leaves a lot to be desired. Given this unfortunate realization, you may have already opted to listen to your favorite songs on your iOS devices using a third-party music player app. If your chosen third-party music player app happens to be Zikera's Groove 2 - Music Player, then I commend you for making an excellent choice. If not, you're probably missing out on a lot of great features only a well-thought-out music player app like Groove 2 can offer. And with the fresh update that was pushed to it today, Groove 2's already groovy feature set just got even groovier. Launched late last month, Groove 2 is a universal app that lets you listen to your music collection in ways you wouldn't normally encounter in another music player app, let alone in the plain Music app. Groove 2 supports automatic Last.fm scrobbling, instant mixes or smart playlists based on your listening habits, omnipresent mini player integration, and gesture-based controls, among other features. See Groove 2 in action in the promotional video below. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Although compatible with both iPhone and iPad, Groove 2 was not optimized for the new iPad's Retina display at launch. That omission has been rectified by the new update, which also introduces volume control and play/pause toggle gestures for the now playing screen on iPad as well as album and playlist shuffling. Other changes brought about by the update include the addition of a repeat button to the iPad version, the return of the "Playlist End Action" setting, and the relocation of all options in the iPad version to the "Actions" menu so as to jibe with the iPhone version. Groove 2 is still available in the App Store for a special launch price of $1.99, half off its regular cost. If you're on the lookout for a feature-rich Music app replacement, you can do far worse than to get into Groove 2's groove.
