The Madness Is Over, And We Have A Winner

Last night, Kentucky defeated Kansas 67-59 in the finale of the 2012 NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Tournament. It was also the finale of AppAdvice's inaugural Yahoo Tourney Pick'Em contest in which participants filled out their brackets and competed for some amazing apps and prizes. What started out as an AppAdvice office pool grew to include app developers and industry insiders, as well as our loyal fans. Gone were the boundaries between app makers and users, between tech writers and readers. The contest was a reminder that at our heart, we are a community, united by our love for apps and a good time. To make the game interesting, I reached out to some developers, to see if they'd be willing to give out a few copies of their apps. The response was more than I expected. The response was overwhelming. It was literally March Madness, as we liberally gave out apps, many of which are among the best in their respective categories. When all was said and done, Benjamin Breault of team Brozy emerged victorious, with 45 of 63 correct picks, beating out the second place finisher by only one point. His prize was a $50 iTunes gift card and a one year subscription to Slacker Premium ($120 value). We also had a $25 gift card for second place, a $10 gift card for third place, and as mentioned, a plethora of apps. A special shout-out goes out to AppAdvice's own Elizabeth Woodard, who finished tops among all the AppAdvice staff that participated. She finished ninth overall. I would like to thank all the generous developers who contributed to our giveaway. There is not enough space to thank them all by name, but please see the mentioned apps section for many of the awesome titles that were offered; special thanks goes to Slacker Radio for providing our grand prize. And of course, a big thank you to all the wonderful participants, who kept things lively and fun. Without you, this event would not have been possible.
