View More Advanced Files And Find Documents Quicker In PDF Expert For iPad v4.0

April 3, 2012
Looking to maintain a competitiveness in the portable document format, or commonly just called PDF, file reader and organizer app category, Readdle has added thumbnails, more advanced PDF features, and support for the Retina display to PDF Expert for iPad. Hoping to make it easier to recognize documents beyond the file name, the first notable change brought along by PDF Expert v4.0 is a shelf-style view. Replacing the text-only list view, documents are now shown in a grid organized gallery with the images created from the first page of the PDF file. I perceive this change as being both good and bad. The pro, as mentioned earlier, is that the feature offers another way to locate documents. On the negative side, users with a lot of documents may find it annoying to scroll the extra distance and possible wasted space. For example, my test group of files contains iDevice manuals, which all have a very similar cover page, making identifying them quickly with just visuals not so painless. Thankfully, it's possible to switch between the new and old list views by swiping down on the documents list and tapping the toggle near the top-right. The other additions include support for PDF files with embedded video and Portfolios, a collection of various document files in possibly different formats that are contained in a single, advanced PDF file. Think of it like Adobe's version of a "zipped" or "stuffed" file. Overall features of PDF Expert are as follows:
  • Read PDFs with ease
  • Fill Forms
  • Save Bookmarks
  • Highlight text
  • Create notes
  • Draw with your finger
  • Underline and Strike-Through words
  • Copy Files From Mac or PC via Wi-Fi and USB
  • Save Email Attachments
  • Edit Documents on iDisk, Dropbox, GoogleDocs and Other Storages
  • Share Files With Your Friends
  • Protect Application with Password
PDF Expert is compatible with iPad running iOS 4.3 or later, and available in the App Store for $9.99.
