A new, interesting Kickstarter project is looking to bring a modular accessory case system to the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.
The Aeris Rail+ is advertised as the first polymer iPhone case that is completely customizable. Here’s a quick video about the project. Click here if you can’t see the video.
Thanks to a set of two different grooves, or rails, different accessories can be snapped on the front and back of the iPhone.
The system features a ballistics-grade, transparent back cover as a standard accessory. Other current accessories include a set of front and back covers for full protection, an adjustable horizontal/vertical kickstand, and a functional handlebar attachment for mountain bikes.
According to the development team, future accessories may include a car mount, battery extender, and docking system with sound amplification.
For a pledge of as low as $26, you can receive the rail case and back cover accessory. A pledge of $50 can nab you the rail case/back cover combo and a kickstand. Right now, with 24 days to go, $2,821 has been pledged on a goal of $50,000. If project funding is successful, estimated delivery of the system is sometime in late June.
Available colors of the Aeris Rail+ are green, black, white, red, purple, pink, green, orange, and blue.
The solution looks very promising, and I’m looking forward to contributing. Even so, I think the long-term success of something like this really rests in the amount of different accessories for the system.
