Hulu Plus For iOS Update Brings Retina iPad Support Plus Better AirPlay Mirroring

May 22, 2012
Not only has Hulu announced the upcoming premiere of 10 new original TV shows on its streaming platform, it has also updated Hulu Plus for iOS with new features and improvements. Hulu Plus lets you watch a wide selection of hit TV shows on your iPhone or iPad. By linking the app with your Hulu Plus premium account, you can gain access to full seasons of current shows (including my favorite sitcom, "Parks and Recreation") as well as classic ones (such as my favorite head-scratcher, "Lost") right from your iDevice. Hulu Plus for iOS has just been updated with, among others, an enhanced video player. This improvement is in accordance with another improvement, that which concerns AirPlay mirroring. In its initial implementation, the app's AirPlay integration left much to be desired as far as the optimization of aspect ratio was concerned. Now, the app makes use of a better aspect ratio for rendering videos on your Apple TV, although video quality remains fettered to streaming limits. Along with AirPlay mirroring, HMDI support has also been improved. The update also brings a couple of iPad-specific improvements, namely Retina iPad graphics and a redesigned iPad user interface. And on both versions of the app, browsing shows by genre is now supported as well. Hulu Plus for iOS is available in the App Store for free. But so as to fully take advantage of the app's features, a $7.99 monthly subscription fee for Hulu Plus is required. Are you already a Hulu Plus subscriber? If so, do you rate the app as highly as you do Mick Jagger's performance in the last "Saturday Night Live"?
