New App Adds Fun Twist To Sometimes Stale Word Games

May 16, 2012
If you’d like to add a little extra challenge to sometimes stale word game apps, War of Words definitely looks like an interesting choice. To begin the game, you are dealt the 25 letters. The objective is to spell as many words as you can within the allotted time frame. Bigger words are worth more points and bonus letters can be used for a double-word score. There are three different challenge modes. With the easy setting, there is two minutes on the clock. The medium setting is 60 seconds and hard is only 30 seconds to work your word-making magic. As a big help during the game, you can pull from your extra letter bucket for letters you need to complete a word. But you can only pull from the bucket twice in one round. There are two ways to play – by yourself or against competition with turn-by-turn multiplayer support. For the multiplayer option, you can invite friends via Facebook or your contact list. You also play someone at your same location with the app’s pass and play feature. Sadly, there is no way to play a random opponent like in Draw Something or Words with Friends. Hopefully, that feature will come in a future update. War of Words is a free, universal app in the App Store. Not surprisingly, there are in-app purchases of extra letters to use in the game. For $1.99 you can purchase 500 extra letters, while $0.99 buys 100 extra letters.
