Opera Mini Web Browser Updated With Retina iPad UI And Data Usage Info

May 24, 2012
While Yahoo! has just debuted its own mobile browser for iOS, Opera has updated its own, which has been around for over two years, with a handful of new features. The highlight of the update to Opera Mini Web Browser is undoubtedly its support for the new iPad's Retina display. Web pages have long been rendered by Opera Mini with Retina graphics on the new iPad, thanks supposedly to the device's systemwide browser integration. But now the app's iPad UI elements have been tweaked to look Retina-sharp. Other than the long-overdue Retina iPad support, a few more improvements are brought by the update for both iPhone and iPad versions of Opera Mini. On the app's main menu, a new Data Usage option has been added. This informs you of your data savings while using the app, with its numerical comparison between the original and received sizes for Web pages. In addition, the update effectively fixes an issue with improper redirection of iTunes links. And since Opera Mini is all for speed and stability, its performance is said to be improved by the update as well. Opera Mini Web Browser is available in the App Store for free. Have the the app's distinctive features been good enough for you to seriously consider it as a Safari replacement on your iDevice?
