Report: Apple To Demo New Apple TV iOS At WWDC
May 30, 2012
Apple is set to demonstrate a brand new version of the Apple TV operating system at the Worldwide Developers Conference, which begins on June 11. This OS is said to be more “feature-complete” than the current OS and also is the one that could run on Apple’s long rumored iTV, according to BGR.
Citing a “trusted source,” the report suggests Apple is actively courting manufacturers to use a new “control out” API. This would allow third-party manufacturers to make accessories that are compatible with Apple TV OS and the company’s possible HDTV.
Accordingly, “this would be a huge change in the home theater landscape, which has until this point relied on a mess of thousands of infrared codes and physical cables in order for devices to be interoperable, or Wi-Fi-controlled apps for each component and piece of hardware.”
Although Apple isn’t expected to actually unveil the mythical iTV in June, anything could happen. Recent reports suggested Apple's HDTV wouldn't launch until 2013 or 2014.
WWDC 2012 runs from June 11-15, 2012 in San Francisco, California.
