Instead of becoming mayor of whocaresville, you can do something much more with your iPhone and Foursquare app. According to TechCrunch, the check-in app is partnering with AIDS battling organization (RED) in the RUSH TO ZERO campaign that is looking to end transmission of the deadly virus from mother to child by 2015.
From June 1-10, Starbucks will donate $1 for every Foursquare check-in at its locations in the United States and Canada, up to $250,000, to the Global Fund, which aims to fight AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis all across the globe.
Penfolds and Bugaboo are also participating with promises to donate $1 for each check-in at select retailers in the United States and other countries.
More information about (RED) RUSH TO ZERO can be found at the campaign’s official site.
Here’s a quick video about the promotion. Click here if you can’t see the video.
Foursquare can be downloaded in the App Store for free.
I haven’t used Foursquare in a while, but I will definitely plan on checking-in at my next Starbucks run (which will be sooner than later) to help donate to such a great and worthy cause. I can’t imagine that it would take very long for Starbucks patrons to push the donation to the maximum limit.
