Wake Up To The Wonders Of Waking Mars, Now With Full Retina Display Support

May 1, 2012
Shortly after its release two months ago, Waking Mars was reviewed here on AppAdvice and was glowingly described as "an incredibly immersive aural and visual experience that you won’t want to miss." If you did happen to miss it, now is as good a time as any to catch up with everyone else who has had the pleasure of playing the game. That’s because the price of the app has been reduced by a couple of dollars. And perhaps more importantly, it has been updated recently with a couple of changes that make playing it an even more engaging experience. Following the launch of the new iPad, Waking Mars was treated with an update that enhanced its already impressive graphics for the new iPad’s Retina display. But it turns out that that update accounts for only a partial Retina iPad graphics upgrade. Today’s update, aptly called "May Day Update" by Waking Mars maker Tiger Style, is the update, the one that fully optimizes the game for the new iPad’s 2048 x 1536 screen. And for a game about exploring visually striking extraterrestrial life and terrain, the result is nothing short of spectacular. Along with the significant graphic improvement, a set of new, unlockable jetpacks is also put into effect by the update. These jetpacks will let you, as the central character of the the game, hover in place, fly rapidly, and even write words (like a marriage proposal) with vapor trails. Also playable on iPhone, Waking Mars is available in the App Store for $2.99. If you’re still on the fence about getting it, better wake up and grab it now.
