Yahoo! Closing Down Livestand iPad App
May 25, 2012
Yahoo! is closing down their Livestand iPad app. The move suggests the search company is striking out in the mobile business, according to news first reported by The Next Web.
First launched in February 2011, Livestand was supposed to be Yahoo!’s answer to the successful Flipboard app. At its core, Livestand was little more than a newsreader, although in November, Sean Capelle called the free app the “quintessential magazine.”
This news comes nearly four months after Yahoo! announced their renewed focus on “mobile first,” which led to the discontinuation of several iOS apps including Yahoo! Meme, Yahoo! Finance, and Yahoo! Shopping. How today's news helps them in their quest to put mobile first remains to be seen.
There is no word on when Livestand will officially close down. It currently remains in the App Store.
