Automatic Photo And Video Uploading Comes To Dropbox For iOS
June 15, 2012
File hosting service Dropbox has today released an update to its official iOS client, effectively leveraging the app's key uploading features.
Version 1.5 of the popular cloud storage app highlights the ability to automatically upload photos and videos using Wi-Fi or cellular data. You can choose to upload only the new photos and videos that you take with your device's camera or include old ones already saved in your library as well.
To avoid extra charges that might be incurred especially if your cellular data plan doesn't support unlimited data transfer, you can opt to enable automatic uploading only when connected to a Wi-Fi network. But as shown in the screenshot below, the app excludes cellular data uploads for videos owing to their much bigger size.
In line with this new feature, a new rewards program is introduced in the app. Just for uploading photos automatically, you can earn up to 3 GB of free additional storage, given in 500 MB increments. Presumably, your incentive is proportional to the number and size of auto-uploaded photos.
The update also features a new Gallery view for photos and videos uploaded to Dropbox. In addition, you can now simultaneously move and delete files in bulk and upload files of any size. Take note: any size.
Optimized for both iPhone and iPad, Dropbox is available in the App Store for free.
Will you be taking advantage of the app's new auto-upload feature and the extra space that can be derived from it?
