Think you're missing out on the latest and greatest Android programs since you’re an iOS and Mac owner? Don't worry, there’s a Mac app for that.
The BlueStacks Android App Player has now gone live, giving Mac owners the ability to use a small number of Android apps on their desktop.
The player comes with 15 Android apps – Air Control Lite, Alchemy, Basketball Shot, Drag Racing, Elastic World, Facebook, Glow Hockey, Paper Toss, Pulse, Robo Defense, Seesmic, Twitter, Whatsapp, and Zebra Paint.
While the majority of those are available for iOS devices, it is an interesting experience to be able to run the apps on your Mac. Even though the player is an alpha version, I was able to easily open the apps and play around on my MacBook Pro running Lion. The touch controls mostly translated to the Mac without any issues.
The games were definitely interesting to try out, but I thought including the Facebook and Twitter apps wasn’t exactly necessary. I can’t see many Mac owners ever needing the Android equivalents.
Even though the number of apps available now is small, BlueStacks is promising to work with more developers. There is also a Windows version of the app player.
