Death Becomes Hero In Upcoming Survival Platformer Hasta La Muerte

June 27, 2012
Hasta la vista, baby! Oops, wrong Spanish phrase. What I mean to write is Hasta La Muerte, which refers to an upcoming iOS game from developer Pohlm Studio and publisher Bulkypix. Hasta La Muerte, whose title literally translates to "until death," is a game of deathly proportions. The game has you assuming the role of Death himself as he corrals the newly departed to their eternal rest. But as that popular line from a grimly sad Coldplay song declares, "Nobody said it was easy." In the case of Hasta La Muerte, nobody said it was easy being Death, that is. What with the numerous damned entities trying to stymie your soul-collecting spree à la Pac-Man, you're as certain as death and taxes to need a little bit of help. Thank heavens for Soulpets, then, which are, basically, power-ups personified. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Originally launched as an Xbox Live on Windows Phone title, Hasta La Muerte features accessible multilevel gameplay that's conveyed through uniquely hand-drawn graphics. I find its quirky — perhaps darkly comic even — aesthetic particularly appealing, and I can't wait to experience it firsthand. Heaven forbid that it should be the death of me. Hasta La Muerte is set to come knocking at the App Store's door on July 5.
