Flipboard Becomes 'Trusted' Google+ Partner

Flipboard, the popular news delivery app for iOS, will soon show some love for Google’s struggling social networking service, Google+. The announcement of Google+ integration with Flipboard was announced by Google’s Bradley Horowitz at LeWeb in London, according to TechCrunch. Launched on June 28, 2011, Google+ does not currently offer a public API. That hasn’t stopped Google from signing “trusted” partner agreements. However, the Flipboard agreement seems to be the most significant to date. The only other partner agreements for Google+ include those with Buddy Media, Hootsuite, Context Optional, Hearsay Social, Involver, and Vitrue. According to the report, the API will soon allow Flipboard users to Google+ comment on and +1 Flipboard items. Additionally, users will be able to send individualized pieces of content to Google+ Circles. Says Horowitz:

It works like it should. Flipboard has done an amazing job.

First launched for iOS in July 2010, Flipboard offers users a personalized magazine experience “out of everything shared with you.” The app’s most recent update includes the ability for users to connect Flipboard to SoundCloud to enjoy sounds created and shared by friends and people you follow. Soon to celebrate its first anniversary, Google+ was supposed to be Google’s answer to Facebook. However, it has largely failed, despite immense media coverage during its debut.
