INSTEON, one of the leading manufacturers of home automation technology, have just released the "world's first" remote controlled LED bulb. Finally, something that makes me feel less bad about myself for being so lazy.
This $30 LED bulb can be dimmed when paired with INSTEON's companion app (available for both iOS and Android). Unfortunately, for the app to work, you must have one of the company's SmartLinc Hubs, which communicate with the bulb through RF. The bulb will automatically link to any other INSTEON products you may already have installed in your home. The company's award-winning tech is built into the bulb, which shines as brightly as conventional 60W-100W incandescent bulbs, it only consumes 8W. Pretty smart, right?
This video shows how simple it is to set up:
Joe Dada, INSTEON's CEO, had this to say in the bulb's press release:
For years, home automation has controlled light fixtures with plug-in lamp modules, wire-in switches and keypads. But, until now, no one has controlled the bulb itself. It’s exciting to be the first to introduce a new product to the world. As simple as the light bulb is, it's exciting to see the potential that our smartphones have when paired with different technologies. We can open garage doors with our iPhones, fly toy helicopters, and now we can dim lights. Who knows where we'll be a year from now? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Until then, you can head over to INSTEON's website for more information on their new LED bulb, as well as their other home automation products. What would you like to control with your iPhone?
