New And Improved Tumblr For iOS Launching Next Week

June 17, 2012
The popular short-form blogging platform Tumblr is launching a new iOS app. This comes straight from the horse's mouth, that is to say, from Tumblr's founding CEO himself, David Karp. Speaking last Friday at this year's F.ounders, a conference attended by notable tech company founders, Karp said that he's generally glad with Tumblr's mobile experience. He admitted, though, that there's plenty of room for improvement on iOS. Karp is particularly proud of Tumblr's official app for Android. "I think that app is worlds beyond a lot of the stuff going on on that platform today," he said. "It's an incredible representation of Tumblr without being just crammed into this tiny, little screen." The 26-year old Internet entrepreneur disclosed that most of the Android app's features are coming to iOS. Tumblr has long had an iPhone app, which has limited functionality compared with its Android counterpart. Going by Karp's statements, it would seem that the iPhone app is going to be subjected to a substantial update similar to Foursquare's recent update for its own iPhone app. Karp added that, while he's unsure whether ads will be built into the new iOS app at launch, two or three ad spots have already been set up for circulation. The new and presumably improved Tumblr for iOS is scheduled for release next week. I hope the upcoming app brings a long-overdue iPad version as well as better support for GIFs, which appear to be Tumblr's sole type of content these days. Source: F.ounders Via: The Next Web
