Report: Boost Mobile To Offer Prepaid iPhones In September
June 1, 2012
In January 2011, AT&T was the only U.S. carrier that sold the iPhone. Since then, that number has risen considerably and will again soon. Just one day after we reported that Cricket Communications would begin carrying the iPhone, another low-cost carrier will soon do the same, according to TechnoBuffalo.
According to the report, Boost Mobile will begin offering the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 in early September. This will bring to 11 the number of U.S. carriers offering Apple’s smartphone.
Based in Irvine, California, Boost is a wholly owned division of Sprint Nextel. Like Cricket, the company will offer the iPhone as prepaid. Currently, the company offers a $50 per month unlimited plan that includes voice, data, and text. No word on whether that plan would also be offered for iPhone customers.
Along with AT&T, the iPhone is available through national carriers, Sprint and Verizon Wireless. Regional carriers include Alaska Communications, Appalachian Wireless, C Spire, Cellcom, GCI and nTelos. On June 22, Cricket will become the first vendor to offer the iPhone without a contract along with a $55/month unlimited plan.
