WWDC Keynote To End With A 50 Inch Announcement?

June 6, 2012
On Monday, the biggest news to come out of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference might not be the unveiling of iOS 6 or the launch of OS X Mountain Lion. Rather, Tim Cook and the rest of the Apple team may use next week’s keynote to announce they are getting into the television business, according to BGR. Certain to fuel rumors that the “one last thing” to be unveiled next week could be an iTV are comments made Wednesday by Peter Misek of Jefferies and Company. The analyst told investors he fully expects Apple to pull back the curtain on their television set. Not this fall or in 2013 or 2014, but rather on Monday, as part of Cook’s keynote. Additionally, Misek states that “companies including AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom are already testing Apple’s HDTV in their labs.” Last month, BGR suggested Apple would reveal a new version of the Apple TV operating system at WWDC. However, at that time the site said they didn’t think Apple would actually launch a television at the event. Now, however, their opinion has changed, thanks to Misek’s comments, which they view as creditable. Were Apple to announce the so-called iTV next week, it will most likely feature “voice controls powered by Siri, LCD panels manufactured by Sharp and possibly a unique content distribution model that offers channels in app-like bundles.” Additionally, Apple would begin offering the television to consumers before the end of the year.

Recall that in Walter Isaacson's official biography of Steve Jobs, the late Apple CEO is quoted as saying of the iTV, "it will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it." Perhaps that crack will be revealed early next week. Do you hope Apple unveils iTV next week? Would you be surprised if they did? Source and Photo: BGR
