It's Official: MobileMe Is Dead

We all knew this day was coming. In favor of the almighty iCloud, Apple has officially closed the doors to MobileMe.
If for some reason you haven't made the transition to iCloud from MobileMe, there's no better time than now. Apple has pulled the MobileMe Gallery and iDisk apps from the App Store today, but you can still download your photos from Gallery and iDisk from the MobileMe homepage, as well as move the rest of your data to iCloud.
MobileMe (formerly iTools and .Mac) was one of those rare Apple products that just didn't work. The service, which launched in 2008, should have worked similarly to today's iCloud by providing seamless address book and calendar syncing, online storage and file sharing, Find My iPhone, and more. Unfortunately, early adopters experienced lost emails and contacts, unreliable syncing, and other reliability issues.
In an article posted in Fortune Magazine, it appears that the late Steve Jobs was more than upset about MobileMe's launch:
"Can anyone tell me what MobileMe is supposed to do?" Having received a satisfactory answer, he continued, "So why the f--- doesn't it do that?"Jobs continued to criticize the MobileMe team for another half-hour.
"You've tarnished Apple's reputation. You should hate each other for having let each other down."When all was said and done, Jobs appointed Eddy Cue to a newly-created position which left him in charge of MobileMe. Jump forward a few years and now we have iCloud. MobileMe is a thing of the past and Jobs probably wouldn't have any F-bombs to drop on the current state of iCloud. Again, MobileMe is gone for good.
