Greedy Monsters Proves Monsters Can Be Foodies Too

July 17, 2012

Greedy Monsters ($1.99) by MTI Studio ltda The monsters flee from their home planet, which looks like Utopia levels in Angry Birds Space.

You start off by feeding the Taff monsters some “Deents,” which look like green donuts. The monsters will sit around until they decide they’re hungry. Drag and drop them over to the feeder. After a few quick bites, the monsters will go back to their merry ways of sitting around.

Every so often another monster will appear, and they will want food as well. With only one monster allowed at the feeder at a time, you have to feed them as quickly as possible before dragging a new one to the feeder.

You can actually interrupt the feeding process, but it’s not recommended. Taffs love their food and shooing one off will result in it wanting even more food.

Taffs turn from green to yellow if you wait too long, which is something you want to avoid. Feeding a yellow Taff equals less points, and it means they are one step closer to dying, which negates your mission.

Different varieties of food will need to be bought in order to keep up with the Taffs’ never-ending appetite.

The levels are arranged in “history mode,” where you chronologically build upon the monsters visiting a new planet and establishing a colony. All of the levels create a story arc of overindulgence, which hits the player over the head with a frying pan that this game is an allegory of our modern society.

Epidemics of obesity, over population, infestation, and garbage are all challenges that need to be rectified.

This game has a lot of text in huge chunks. It’s pretty overwhelming to see a whole screen filled with text multiple times. However, just like Dolphin Chase, it takes a lot of words for the developer to convey the message.

As if the developers were greedy as well, the app is priced at $1.99 and it still contains in-app purchases. Potkot and Toof are two additional monsters available for purchase. Each features improved stats over Taff, the default monster.

Playing the game can be quite addictive, mostly due to the hectic time management gameplay, combined with the well-paced levels and humorous monsters. Just make sure not to spend too much time playing it, or you may end up as lethargic as the Taffs.
