Choose Your Own Adventure In Upcoming iOS Gamebook Underground Kingdom
August 16, 2012
Remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books? You know, they’re those books that let you, well, choose your own adventures by giving you different options that lead to different endings. I for one remember them fondly. And it’s why I’m so excited about a Kickstarter project called Underground Kingdom.
I’m telling you, if there’s one Kickstarter project whose fulfillment I’m really looking forward to, it’s Underground Kingdom.
Underground Kingdom is an upcoming gamebook for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad being developed by Visual Baker. Essentially, it’s a Choose Your Own Adventure book adapted for iOS.
As a matter of fact, Underground Kingdom is based on one of the classic Choose Your Own Adventure book of the same name written by Edward Packard. It’s worth noting that Packard, who wrote over 50 Choose Your Own Adventure books, practically invented the popular gamebook genre.

Having obtained the blessing of Packard himself, Visual Baker is now looking to adapt books from the original Choose Your Own Adventure series for iOS. And it’s starting with the release of Underground Kingdom.
To that end, Visual Baker has just launched a Kickstarter campaign. Through the campaign, it aims to collect at least $12,000 from backers by Sept. 14, 2012. Backers — that is to say, you! — can expect to be rewarded with a variety of goodies including, of course, the completed Underground Kingdom iOS gamebook itself.
The Underground Kingdom iOS gamebook is set to be a prime example of interactive storytelling. With more than 50 animated illustrations and a handy progress map, Underground Kingdom invites you to make decisions on your path toward one of the 21 different endings of the story.
Now does that whet your appetite for an adventure of your own choosing, or what?
